Mandy On the Way to Brussels at JFK Airport, PanAm Terminal, September 15, 1971

You would not believe the looks she got from people everywhere we traveled, not just here but abroad. This is the outfit she wore on the plane and in Brussels the day we arrived. Let's just say that in the tiny village of Rhode-St.-Genèse where we spent the evening, she caused quite a sensation.

I just smiled and pretended I was her cameraman. "Ça va, paparazzi, OK?"

Yes, folks, those are Twizzlers.

I have dozens of entertaining stories about Mandy in those days, and her effect on friends and strangers. She was and remains to this day a great asset.

She only wore this mini-skirt once again publicly, at the Institute Faculty meet-and-greet. The professors at the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics, all from NATO countries, were beside themselves. The head of the Institute came up to me to congratulate me for marrying such a fine Parisian French girl. "Her French is perfect. It's such a pleasure to hear the language spoken so elegantly!" I just smiled. Her Spanish was even better. I think it was the haircut, that Parisian shag, that did it.

She loved to wear this outfit when we went out dancing, but not on the street in Europe. She had a raincoat that was a perfect wrap for the evening.

Mandy is a tremendously talented linguist, dancer, artist, teacher, and as it turns out, savvy business person. She also happened to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. I was fortunate to have met her while I was at Yale. When I discovered the gem that she embodied, "Veni, vidi, vici," and she was mine. I will share some of these stories over time. For now, enjoy the discovery of the world's first true supermodel: Mandy.
